Gameplay

"The Red Thread was never
about luck. It was always about choice."

Legend says the Great Dragon tied a red thread between two strangers on the first night of the New Year — one destined to find it, one destined to follow. This year, that thread runs through the game. Buried inside the dragon's mouth is something no one has seen before: the Bound by Fate cuffs. Two players. One thread. Fifteen days to find the end of it.

The Night Market does not wait. The lanterns do not stay lit forever. Whatever you seek this New Year — seek it together.

What you'll earn

All rewards vanish at midnight on March 3rd. The Night Market packs up. The lanterns go dark. The Great Dragon returns to sleep. Collect now or miss them forever.

Your questions, answered

Everything you need to know before the festival begins.

When does Red Thread start and end?
Red Thread runs for 15 days from February 17, 2028 to March 3, 2028. The event goes live at midnight UTC on the 17th and all event rewards lock at midnight UTC on March 3rd. The countdown on this page reflects that deadline.
Do any rewards return after the event?
No. All five handcuff variants — Vermillion, Jade, Gilded Dragon, Night Market, and Bound by Fate — are permanently vaulted when the Night Market closes on March 3rd. They will not return in future events or in the regular shop.
What is the Red Envelope currency and how do I earn it?
Red Envelopes (红包) are the event's limited currency. You earn them by completing quest chapters, launching coordinated fireworks with a partner, navigating the dragon parade, and finding hidden fortune scrolls scattered across the Night Market map. They can only be spent at Night Market stalls during the 15-day window.
Do I need a specific partner to do the co-op dragon ride?
You need any cuffed partner — anyone you are currently handcuffed to in-game can mount the Great Dragon with you. Both players must have reached Chapter 6 of the Dragon Parade questline before the ride becomes available. You can attempt it multiple times, but the Bound by Fate cuffs are only awarded the first time you complete all three shrines together.
Can I complete all questlines solo?
Seven of the eight questline chapters can be completed solo. Chapter 7 — the dragon ride — requires a cuffed partner. If you do not have a regular partner, the Night Market includes an NPC matchmaking board where you can post your name for the parade window.
What is the Bound by Fate cuff and how rare is it?
Bound by Fate is the rarest cosmetic in the event — a two-piece lacquer set connected by a glowing red thread that links both players visually in-game. It is only awarded by completing the co-op dragon ride. Given the co-op requirement and the 15-day window, it is expected to be the rarest item in the game's history when the event ends.
