Roblox Game Designer

Design, prototype, and shape engaging Roblox experiences played by thousands (or millions). Build gameplay systems, events, and progression using Roblox Studio and Lua scripting in a fast-moving live game environment.

Role Overview

As a Roblox Game Designer, you’ll collaborate with developers, scripters, builders, and UI designers to create fun, scalable experiences inside Roblox. You’ll design mechanics, improve retention, balance progression, and help ship updates that players actually feel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design gameplay systems for Roblox experiences (simulators, RPGs, tycoons, etc.)
  • Create and iterate on mechanics using Roblox Studio
  • Work with Lua scripters to implement features
  • Design progression systems, rewards, and monetization loops
  • Run playtests and analyze player feedback + retention data
  • Balance in-game economies and progression pacing
  • Support live updates, seasonal events, and limited-time content

Must-Have Skills

  • Experience with Roblox Studio
  • Basic understanding of Lua scripting (or strong willingness to learn)
  • Portfolio of Roblox games, systems, or prototypes
  • Understanding of player psychology & engagement loops
  • Ability to document ideas clearly (design docs, update notes)
  • Strong creativity + systems thinking mindset

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with monetized Roblox games (gamepasses, dev products)
  • UI/UX design inside Roblox
  • Data analysis (retention, funnel optimization)
  • Experience with popular Roblox genres (simulators, horror, RP)
  • Viral Roblox experience design (hooks, thumbnails, CTR)
  • Knowledge of Roblox economy trends
  • Multiplayer system design
  • Animation or builder collaboration experience

Compensation

$55,000 – $95,000 CAD / year

Based on experience, portfolio strength, and shipped Roblox titles.
