Animator

Craft fluid, expressive motion that delights users — from UI/UX micro-interactions to product explainer videos, marketing animations, and immersive 3D sequences. Join a creative team in Edmonton (hybrid) or remote across Canada.

Role Overview

As an Animator at Company, you'll breathe life into interfaces, products, and brand stories through thoughtful motion design. You'll work closely with designers, 3D modelers, product teams, and marketers to create animations that feel intuitive, performant, and emotionally engaging — whether for web/apps, video content, or emerging AR/VR experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and animate UI/UX micro-interactions, transitions, and loading states
  • Create 2D/3D motion graphics for product demos, explainer videos, and marketing campaigns
  • Animate 3D assets (characters, products, environments) in real-time and pre-rendered contexts
  • Ensure animations are performant across web, mobile, and desktop (60fps target)
  • Collaborate on motion guidelines, design systems, and animation libraries
  • Iterate quickly based on user testing feedback and creative direction

Must-Have Skills & Tools

  • Strong motion design portfolio (timing, easing, anticipation, squash & stretch)
  • Expert in After Effects + Character Animator (or Cavalry / Rive for UI motion)
  • Proficient in 3D animation tools: Blender, Cinema 4D, or Maya
  • Experience exporting to Lottie, Rive, or code-friendly formats (CSS, GSAP, Framer Motion)
  • Solid understanding of physics-based animation & easing curves
  • Ability to work within design systems and brand guidelines

Nice-to-Have / Bonus Points

  • Experience with real-time animation in Unity / Unreal Engine
  • Knowledge of Houdini or procedural animation tools
  • UI prototyping in Figma + smart animate / prototyping plugins
  • Scripting (Expressions in AE, Python in C4D/Blender) for automation
  • AR/VR motion design (spatial UI, hand tracking interactions)
  • Previous work in SaaS/product animation, games, advertising, or explainer video production
  • Understanding of accessibility in motion (reduced motion preferences, WCAG)
  • Experience collaborating with developers on implementation
  • Video editing/compositing skills (Premiere Pro / DaVinci Resolve)
