UI Designer

Design clean, intuitive, and delightful user interfaces for games, apps, dashboards, and interactive experiences. Create responsive, accessible, and brand-aligned UI that feels natural and performs beautifully — hybrid in Edmonton or remote across Canada.

Role Overview

As a UI Designer at Company, you will craft pixel-perfect, user-centered interfaces that make complex interactions feel effortless. You’ll design HUDs, menus, in-game overlays, onboarding flows, dashboards, and cross-platform UI systems — collaborating closely with UX designers, product managers, engineers, artists, and animators to deliver cohesive, performant, and emotionally engaging experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design high-fidelity UI layouts, components, icons, and visual elements
  • Create responsive, scalable interfaces for multiple platforms (mobile, PC, console, web)
  • Build and maintain UI design systems, style guides, and component libraries (Figma)
  • Collaborate on motion design & micro-interactions with animators
  • Ensure accessibility (WCAG compliance, color contrast, screen reader support)
  • Prototype interactive flows and conduct usability testing iterations
  • Work with engineers on implementation specs and handoff (Zeplin, Figma Dev Mode)

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • Strong UI design portfolio showing clean, modern, game/app interfaces
  • 3–6+ years UI design experience (games, SaaS, mobile apps, or interactive products)
  • Expert in Figma (advanced prototyping, auto-layout, variables, components)
  • Deep understanding of UI principles: hierarchy, typography, spacing, color systems
  • Experience designing for multiple platforms & screen sizes
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design
  • Strong collaboration with developers & motion designers

Nice-to-Have / Bonus Points

  • Experience designing in-game UI/HUD for live-service or multiplayer games
  • Proficiency with motion prototyping (Figma Smart Animate, Principle, After Effects)
  • Knowledge of design systems implementation in code (CSS-in-JS, Tailwind, Styled Components)
  • Previous work on dashboards, data visualization, or complex enterprise interfaces
  • Familiarity with AR/VR spatial UI design principles
  • Understanding of performance considerations in UI (draw calls, batching, overdraw)
  • Experience with user testing tools (Maze, Lookback, UserTesting)
  • Interest in emerging UI trends (glassmorphism, neumorphism, spatial design)
  • Basic front-end knowledge (HTML/CSS, React components) for better handoff

Important Note for Dyslexic Applicants

This UI Designer role involves significant typing for component naming, style documentation, design system maintenance, and detailed handoff specifications. It is not recommended for individuals with significant dyslexia unless strong accommodations or coping strategies are already in place.

If you are dyslexic and still wish to apply, you will be automatically considered for our Dyslexia Learning Program (DLP), which offers extra support, more flexible deadlines, specialized tools, and adjusted workload expectations.
