Hey guys!
We've got something pretty fun we've been working on behind the scenes, and we're finally ready to talk about it.
Meet Retroarcade!
Retroarcade is a program we're making that brings a bunch of classic games together into one place. The idea is pretty simple: open the program, pick a game, and start playing.
We've always liked those games that you can just open up and immediately understand. No massive tutorial, no twenty-minute introduction, and no giant list of things you need to learn before you can actually play.
"Open it. Pick a game. Play."
So... What's In It?
We're starting Retroarcade with a collection of classic-style games that we've been having a lot of fun building.
Here's what we're currently planning to include:
- Asteroids — Blast your way through drifting rock fields, rotate, dodge, and clear everything before it clears you.
- 2048 — Slide matching numbers together and try to reach the legendary 2048 tile.
- Pong — The classic. Rally the ball past your opponent's paddle and try not to let them score.
- Snake — Eat pellets, grow longer, and try not to run straight into yourself.
- Solitaire — A relaxing game of classic Klondike Solitaire.
- Minesweeper — Clear the board without hitting a mine. Easier said than done.
- Tetris — Stack blocks, clear lines, and try to keep up as everything gets faster.
Controllers Too!
One thing we really wanted to do with Retroarcade was make it feel good to play however you want.
A number of the games will support controllers as well as keyboards, so if you have a controller sitting around, you can actually use it.
Games like Asteroids, Pong, Snake, and Tetris are being built with controller support in mind.
Other games, such as 2048, Solitaire, and Minesweeper, will stick with keyboard controls since they don't really need a controller.
Current multiplayer games: Pong and Tetris are planned to support 1-2 players. More multiplayer functionality may be added as development continues.
Why Are We Making This?
Honestly? Because we think it's fun.
There's something really satisfying about those old-school games where the entire concept can be explained in one sentence.
We also wanted to make our own little collection of games that feels like a digital arcade. Something you can open when you have a few minutes and just play.
Retroarcade isn't trying to be some giant platform with hundreds of complicated systems. We're keeping the idea straightforward and focusing on making each game enjoyable.
It's Still Being Built
Retroarcade is still very much a work in progress.
We're still working on the games themselves, the launcher, controls, menus, and all of the little things that make the whole experience feel polished.
And, of course, there's always the possibility of adding more games later.
What's Next?
For now, we're focused on getting the first collection of games working properly and making sure Retroarcade feels like one complete experience rather than just a bunch of separate games thrown together.
We'll share more screenshots, development updates, and information as the project gets further along.
We're really excited about this one, and we hope you guys are too.
Thanks for checking out what we're working on, and we'll see you in the next update!
